Why am I being asked to provide bank statements?
As part of your verification, the organisation that requested your Thirdfort check may ask you to provide bank statements. You can do this by connecting to your bank or uploading your statements as photos or digital files (PDFs). By law, when dealing with large amounts of money, solicitors and law firms have to understand where that money originates from. This helps stop fraud and prevents money laundering.
Providing bank statements using Open Banking
To get started select to 'Start' the task from your to-do list. You will then be given a brief introduction to the task, when you are ready to begin please press 'Next.'
You will then be given an extended explanation of the task covering why we need bank statements, to proceed please select 'Next.'
You will then see a screen to confirm your permission to use Open Banking. This highlights what information will be shared and included in your Thirdfort Verification for the organisation that referred you to us. When you are happy and ready to proceed please press 'Accept.'
You will now be given a list of available banks to generate a bank statement from. You must link all bank accounts that contain funds related to your purchase. This may include a current account, savings account and ISAs. If you are unable to link your bank account you will need to upload a copy of your statement. Our guide here explains how to do this in more detail. By selecting your bank from the list you will be taken directly to them to sign in.
Thirdfort does not see this sign-in process or store any login details. Once signed in your bank will give you a list of supported accounts to generate a statement for. Select as many as required and complete the process with your bank. You will then automatically be returned to Thirdfort.
If your bank is not listed you will be advised that you are unable to use Open Banking to generate a bank statement. Instead, you can skip the task and upload a bank statement directly. Our guide here explains how to do this in more detail
Once you have linked your first bank you can then link any additional banks by selecting 'Link another bank.' This will return you to the list of supported banks to add more accounts, there is no limit to the number of banks you can link to.
Once you have connected all of the banks required by the organisation that referred you to us please select 'Finish.' You will then be asked if you are sure you have connected all the necessary banks.
Once you confirm this you cannot return to the task. When you are ready to proceed please select 'Yes I am sure' and the task will automatically complete and return you to any remaining tasks.
