How to successfully read the NFC chip in your passport
Step 1:
After scanning the photo page of your passport you will automatically be directed to scan the chip in the front cover of your passport. You will be shown an animation of how to position your phone in order to read the passport chip. When you are ready to begin please press 'Start reading.'
Step 2:
When you select to 'Start reading' the app will begin to search for your passport chip. To ensure your reading is successful we recommend:
- Removing any case or cover from your passport.
- Resting the passport on a flat surface.
- Rest the phone directly on the front cover of the passport, with the top of the phone in line with the middle of the passport.
When the chip is detected you will see a progress bar begin to fill in and turn blue (on Android this is a solid progress bar, on an iPhone this is a series of blue dots)

Step 3:
Once the progress bar has been completely filled in you will then automatically be moved to the next stage of the ID check, to photograph your signature page. You can read more about completing that here.
